Staying at Rowton Castle
From finding us and check in times to accessibility details, explore everything you need to know about the practical aspects of Rowton Castle below.
Let’s Start With Finding Us
Our address is Rowton Castle, Halfway House, Shrewsbury SY5 9EP.
Rowton Castle is located in the heart of the Shropshire countryside. It is close to the England-Wales border and sits between the towns of Shrewsbury and Welshpool. Although we enjoy a peaceful location here at Rowton Castle, being just outside of the market town of Shrewsbury, we are quite easy to find! You may find this detailed map and directions useful, alternatively, google maps will bring you to the front door.
At What Time Can We Check In
Check in is available from 3pm, with check out following breakfast at 10.30am the next day. There are times when it is possible to secure an earlier check in (and a small charge required to do so) – please do speak with our reservations team at the time of booking to confirm.
What is Included in the Room
In all 19 castle bedrooms you will find tea and coffee making facilities, a hair-dryer, Temple Spa toiletries, along with an iron and ironing board.
Can I Charge my Electric Car
Whilst a car charging point is something that we are looking into, we’ve not installed the facility to do so, just yet. The nearest option for this is at the Bicton Heath Shopping Centre (Postcode: SY3 5AD).
Are Children Welcome to Stay
Of course. Whilst we’ve three dedicated family bedrooms – one of which is made up of a double bed and a single, the other two a double bed and a double sofa bed – most of our rooms are able to accommodate additional beds and cots for children. A charge of £15 applies for children’s beds, and £10 for cots. All we ask is that you make us aware of your requirements on booking.
Why Can I only Book 3 Months in Advance
Quite simply, overnight stays and dinner reservations are subject to event availability. Being an exclusive use wedding venue, we generally open up dates for castle stays 3-4 months in advance, and encourage you to check back regularly if you’re looking for dates further ahead than this.
Dining at Rowton Castle
Dining at Rowton Castle is something that really must be experienced – at least once! Find out all about opening times and dress codes below.
When is the Restaurant Open
Our romantic Cedar Restaurant is open for dinners on non-wedding days. Similarly, to overnight stays we open up dates for castle dining 3-4 months in advance. When the restaurant is open, tables are available for bookings between 6-8.30pm.
In the winter months (Oct-Mar) and on the occasional available summers Sunday, the castle opens it’s doors for Sunday Lunch, with tables available from 12-2pm.
What is the Dress Code
Whilst there is no strict dress code for diners in our Cedar Restaurant, visitors to our restaurant follow a smart-casual approach.
I’m a Wedding Guest
You’ve made it to the right place. The questions below cover everything you need to know about attending a wedding here at Rowton Castle.
Do You Have Overnight Accommodation
We ask couples getting married with us to allocate all bedrooms (there’s no denying that the couple will know you all better than we do and can select the most appropriate room for your stay). If you haven’t been allocated a room, don’t worry; there are plenty of lovely local B&Bs as well as larger hotels nearby. All accommodation bookings at Rowton Castle include a full English Breakfast!
At What Time Can We Arrive
To extend courtesy to the previous days’ guests, we are unable to open our doors and accommodate your arrival until 12.30pm. At this time our reception team will be ready to greet you and check in those staying overnight in our castle accommodation, with room keys being available at 1pm.
Whilst the above is typical, do check the information provided to you by the marrying couple – it may be that they are working to an alternative timeline and have a preference when it comes to your arrival.
Where Can We Get Lunch
We do not provide lunch prior to weddings. The kitchen is already in full swing at this time, preparing a delicious wedding breakfast for you all to enjoy. If you fancy a snack or quick lunch before the wedding, the town of Shrewsbury is perfect for this. Just a few miles away, there are a wide range of restaurants for all tastes.
Do You Have Your Own Bar
There are a number of bars here at Rowton Castle; all of which differ in style and ambience. Our bars stock a fantastic range of lagers, craft beers, cider, spirits and a selection of wines at reasonable prices. We take card payments and accept apple pay (we are now completely cashless). We do expect that drinks consumed on the premises are bought from the bar whilst open.
Can You Recommend a Taxi Service
We can recommend a number of companies based both in Shrewsbury and Welshpool. Please do book your taxi before the wedding where possible – this is advised for weddings taking place on any day of the week but is especially important on Friday and Saturday evenings. Music finishes and the bar closes to non-residents at 12am. You may find that times between 12am and 12.15am are the most suitable when arranging your taxi.
